Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, located at 10030 Fairfax Blvd., is now open in Fairfax.

The eatery has been under construction for the past few months, taking over the old Kentucky Fried Chicken location.

It's the first of six Freddy's locations coming to Northern Virginia, Freddy's Communications Director Sarah Selmon told Patch in January.

Freddy's offers steakburgers, fries, custard cakes, hot dogs and concretes — or custard shakes with toppings mixed in.

“We’ve consistently experienced a warm welcome from our guests whenever the Freddy’s family enters a new community,” said Scott Redler, Vice President and COO of Freddy’s and brother of Fairfax franchisee Barry Redler, in a press release.

“From California to Texas and now the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, the Freddy’s approach to caring for our guests is simple; unwavering attention to exceptional hospitality with high quality, cooked-to-order food,” Scott Redler said.

“Freddy’s superior standards and family-friendly atmosphere are a perfect fit for the city of Fairfax," said franchisees Barry and Beverly Redler, residents of Fairfax. "We’re proud to be a part of the community, both as residents and now as business-owners. We are honored to bring the Freddy’s concept to the Northern VA area.”

The company began with founder Freddy Simon, a World War II veteran, and his sons and was inspired by the 1950s staple, the steakburger.

Yahoo named Freddy's one of eight "Better Burger Chains Poised to Conquer America" last year and QSR claimed Freddy's was one of "2012's Best Franchise Deals."

The Fairfax Freddy's location brought about 60 jobs to the area.

Too bad their sewer system is backed up. I hope they get it fixed soon so they can open up again. I hear they are really good people.
