Fairfax City recognized a handful of firefighters for their heroic efforts in 2012.

Every year the department notes some of its exemplary employees with an awads and promotional ceremony. The 2012 event took place in April at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center on Old Lee Highway.

Congrats to the following:

  • Firefighter of the Year - Master Firefighter Jon Jeniec
  • Volunteer Firefighter of the Year - Firefighter Chris Jarvis
  • Fire Officer of the Year - Captain Pete Rhoads
  • Volunteer Fire Officer of the Year - Sergeant Jim Rodgers
  • First Family Heritage Award - Captain Richard Miller

Other firefighters and rescue employees received safe driving awards, unit citations, as well as meritorius service medals in bronze and silver for their quick and effective responses to a variety of incidents.

A few firefighters were honored for their efforts during the early September 2011 downpour that killed two. Fairfax City firefighters pulled at least 20 stranded motorists from floodwaters during the two-day weather event.
