Firefighters reached into their own wallets and purchased toys and gifts for a needy family in Fairfax City this holiday season.

City of Fairfax Fire Department worked with Our Daily Bread to reach out to a family in need of aid. The department collected personal donations to provide the family with a full Thanksgiving dinner, Safeway gift cards for Christmas dinner, full stockings and Christmas presents. Firefighters delivered the presents with Santa on Dec. 22.

"This is really an extension of the outreach into the community our personnel are involved in every day of the year," said Fire Chief Dave Rohr. "Firefighters take pride in helping others and each year we do this we walk away with a great feeling of satisfaction knowing we made a difference in the community."
