Fairfax Kmart Store Closing

The Jermantown Road location is one of more than 100 Kmart stores across the country to shut its doors.

The Kmart on Jermantown Road is nearing the end of its store closing sale.

After disappointing holiday sales, Sears Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ: SHLD) announced in January it would close up to 120 stores nationwide.

The Fairfax location was not on the original list of Kmart store closings the company released in January, but the Jermantown Road location started having "store closing" sales earlier this month.

A new Walmart opened close to Kmart in October 2011, and several local residents predicted the competition would not work out well for Kmart.
