Donate Blood for Burned Firefighter

Fairfax fire community rallies to help a burned NYC firefighter.

Fairfax City firefighters ask those with type O-negative blood to drop by Fire Station 3 before 1 p.m. today to help a New York City firefighter in desperate need.

Robert Wiedmann suffered burns on over 50 percent of his body last week, according to CBS NY. Fire and emergency personnel from all over have stepped up to help provide the blood he needs to undergo extensive operations.

"We have not held a blood drive [like this] before, but the firefighter community across the nation looks out for each other," said Lt. Craig Evans of the .

A Bloodmobile will be at Fire Station 3 (4081 University Drive) until 1 p.m. today, Evans said. 

Donors can also get in touch with local blood banks to find out how to donate blood long-distance. Wiedmann is identified as patient #203859 along with file #71614 at the N.Y. Blood Center (1-800-439-6876).
