No Bomb Found at Courthouse

Hearings will be rescheduled.

UPDATE (Thursday, 6:20 a.m.): Courthouse is open for business as usual Thursday morning. Bomb squad cleared and reopened the courthouse yesterday afternoon, said Lt. Steve Elbert of Fairfax County Sheriff's office. No bomb was found.

(3:17 p.m.): Judicial Drive and Page Avenue are now open to traffic.

(12:56 p.m.): Chain Bridge Road is still open to traffic in front of the Judicial Center, but expect delays. Judicial drive is closed. Sgt. Joe Johnson of City of Fairfax Police Department says a bomb team is at the scene conducting an investigation.

Fairfax County Courthouse is closed today due to a bomb threat.

The county's emergency preparedness blog recently announced the closure. Washington Post reports the threat was received at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Closed:

  • All General District Court preliminary hearings scheduled for 2 p.m. are canceled and will be rescheduled.
  • All Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court court cases will be continued at a later date.
  • All juvenile intake services are relocated to the Juvenile Detention Center at 10650 Page Ave. in the Judicial Center.
  • This afternoon's juvenile drivers license ceremony is canceled and will be rescheduled.
  • Circuit Court is closed.
