Bicyclist Attacked on Main Street

The victim was able to flee on his bicycle.

Fairfax City Police are searching for a man who attacked and attempted to rob a bicyclist on Main Street near Providence Square Saturday.

A 43-year-old Fairfax man was riding his bicycle in the 10300 block of Main Street when the suspect stopped him between 10:30-11 p.m. The suspect demanded money, punched the victim and rifled through his pockets, finding nothing, said Sgt. Joe Johnson of the City of Fairfax Police Department.

The victim was able to escape on his bicycle with few or no injuries. He later described his attacker as a black man, about 30 years old, five feet four inches tall, about 150 pounds with a clean-cut appearance in a black jacket and black or brown pants.

City police say the man didn't use a weapon in the attack.

This is confusing? The article says that the man was attacked in the afternoon but the time given is 10:30 - 11:00 p.m.????

You're right. The time is correct. Afternoon is not. Fixed.

Thank you! It's still alarming, but to think it happened in broad daylight created more concern. Thanks for your reporting!
