Update: Jermantown Road Reopens After 3-Car Crash

Road closes at Church Street for an hour and a half after driver appears to have medical emergency.

Update 3:41 p.m.: Two people were taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a three-car accident on Jermantown Road.

The accident appears to be the result of a medical emergency, City of Fairfax Police Sgt. Joe Johnson told Patch.

A driver of one of the vehicles was traveling on Jermantown Road when a medical emergency is believed to have occurred, Johnson said. The car crossed the yellow line and struck an oncoming vehicle, before continuing down the road and hitting another.

Two drivers were taken to the hospital for treatment. The third driver was able to drive away from the accident after giving information about the wreck, Johnson said.

The road reopened after an hour and a half of investigation, Johnson said.

Original 2:34 p.m. Wednesday: An accident shut down Jermantown Road in both directions at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday at its intersection with Church Street.

An alert from the City of Fairfax said the road would be closed for at least 30 minutes.
