UPDATE: Second Child Succumbs to Injuries

Woodbridge man still in critical condition.

UPDATE (Thursday, 12 p.m.): Police said the second child, Victoria Williams, 7, recently succumbed to her injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Hamidallah Nabilada, 38, of Woodbridge, is still fighting for his life. Nabilada was taken to the hospital after the van he was driving was struck on Lee Highway.

UPDATE (12 p.m.): Dejon L’Air Williams, 27, of Cross Junction and her 5-year-old daughter, Faith, were killed in the crash, according to Fairfax City Police. Williams' 7-year-old daughter, Victoria, was taken to Fairfax Hospital in critical condition.

A fourth person, a 38-year-old man who had driven the van, was also taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Last night's crash occured when Williams' sedan sideswiped a vehicle while traveling east on Lee Highway, said Sgt. Joe Johnson of the . The sedan then hit a median strip and continued down Lee Highway until it crashed into a van. The van had just turned left onto the westbound lanes of Lee Highway from private property near Jemantown Road.

Police believe speed helped cause the crash. Officers aren't sure if all of the drivers and passengers were wearing their seatbelts.

The is the city's first fatal crash of the year.

ORIGINAL (4:17 a.m.): 

Two people were killed in a vehicle crash on Lee Highway at Jermantown Road in Fairfax City Tuesday night.

An early report from Johnson says a driver and passenger were killed when their car struck a van at the intersection. A third, the driver of the van, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police are still working out the details of this incident. So far they know that a 2001 Honda Civic struck a 2002 Honda Odyssey at Lee and Jermantown at around 11 p.m.

The names of the decreased have yet to be released.
