Three DECA students from Fairfax High School, Michael Lockard, Amanda Blackwell, and Madison McGinty, introduced financial literacy to Daniels Run Elementary School sixth graders. On November 26th and December 10th the three DECA students held two after school sessions known as "Cash With Kids", with the goal of teaching finance to sixth grade students. In the first session the students were taught, through interactive activities, the value of money, savings, and how to earn money. During the second session a guest speaker from Heritage Bank, Aida Tannous, the branch manager, and her colleague, Susie Kitchin, talked to the students about finance topics and assisted the sixth graders as they filled out deposit slips and participated in financial activities. The student's excitement escalated when it was announced that a life-size version of The Game of Life was to begin. The simulated game allowed students to practice their understanding of what the real world would be like involving many different scenarios. "Cash With Kids" was very successful.
